Acupuncture

acupunctureAcupuncture has been a tool used for treatment of various conditions, disorders, and pain for a long period of time. It involves the insertion of a small solid needle through the surface skin to varying depths of tissue.

At Tonic we currently have three therapists (Brenda, Sarah and Sofia) that use Acupuncture and Dry Needling to improve function with musculoskeletal issues and decrease neurological pain. While in standard acupuncture the needle is not manipulated after insertion, dry needling uses the movement of the needle to increase the effects of trigger point release and pain reduction.

Sofia and Sarah are also trained in using the Electroacupuncture. Electroacupuncture involves applying a mild electric current through the needles that are inserted. The purpose is to potentially increase the benefits of standard acupuncture.

You’ll find that your Acupuncture treatment will often be included as part of the whole session, and will therefore be billed to your insurance company under “Physiotherapy” or “Registered Massage Therapy”, depending on who is performing the service. Unfortunately, we are not considered Acupuncturists and therefore cannot be billed as such under your insurance policy.
